BOTOX® Cosmetic

Will I still look like me?

Treatments do not radically change your facial appearance. You can still frown or look surprised - without the wrinkles between your brows. And with natural-looking results of BOTOX® Cosmetic, you won't look like you've "had work done". BOTOX® works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the muscle's activity that causes wrinkles to form. If treatments are not continued, the lines will slowly reappear in the places they appeared before treatment, though with multiple treatments the facial muscles will begin to atrophy, and treatment will be needed less frequently to maintain results.

Will I still look like me?

BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments typically take about 10 minutes, and normal activities can be resumed immediately after the procedure.

Are the treatments painful?

Discomfort is usually minimal and brief, requiring little to no recovery time. You can do the procedure on your lunch break, in fact. No anesthesia is required. As with all injections, there may be some discomfort during treatment. The most common, but rare, side effects include temporary eyelid droop and nausea. Other side effects that may occur include bruising, swelling, redness and tenderness at the injection site.

How long do the results last?

Results can last for up to four months. If you discontinue treatment, lines will begin to re-appear, though after many treatments the muscles begin to atrophy, meaning you will require less frequent treatments to maintain your results.

How soon will I see results?

Results are visible within the first four days following treatment, and the lines continue to improve during the first month.

Dermal Fillers

Are dermal fillers safe?

Yes. Years of clinical testing have shown Radiesse®, Juvederm™, Evolence® and PREVELLE® silk to be safe and effective. The ingredients found in these treatments are made of bio-compatible substances which are naturally found in the body, resulting in little to no risk of allergic reaction. Dermal fillers naturally degrade and metabolize into the body over time, with results lasting up to a year or more.

Are there any side effects?

Very few side effects have been reported for Juvederm™, Radiesse®, Evolence® and PREVELLE® silk. Clients may experience common injection-related reactions such as swelling, itching, redness, firmness, bruising, tenderness, mild irritation or edema. These side effects typically cease shortly after treatment. As with other injection treatments, there is a small risk of infection.

Is the treatment painful?

You may experience some mild discomfort during or after treatment. To reduce discomfort, injections are made using a fine needle, and Dr. PreFontaine may numb the area for further client comfort.

How long does treatment usually take?

The injection process takes between 15 and 30 minutes, though a consultation with Dr. PreFontaine is required before treatment can begin.

What is Hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the body that helps to hydrate and fill out the skin. Along with its use in anti-aging procedures, it has been used during other medical treatments for 20 years.

How soon will I see results?

The results of dermal filler treatments are immediate, and can last for up to a year or longer depending on age, skin type, lifestyle, and metabolic rate.

BOTOX® for Excessive Sweating

How does BOTOX® work?

Targeted, superficial BOTOX® injections temporarily interrupt nerve transmission to the sweat glands that cause excessive sweating. Clients will experience significantly reduced sweat production following treatment. When topical measures are not enough, BOTOX® could be the solution.

Is treatment with BOTOX® painful?

BOTOX® is injected into the underarm area using a very fine needle which is placed just under the skin. As with all injection procedures, some mild discomfort may occur. You'll receive multiple injections during treatment, and the number of these injections is based on Dr. PreFontaine's assessment of the treatment area.

How soon will I notice results?

You should notice a significant reduction in underarm sweating within 4 weeks of your first treatment.

Are the results permanent?

No, over time you will need to undergo further BOTOX® injections to sustain your results. In a study performed by BOTOX®, over half of those surveyed reported that their results lasted 200 days or more.

Is BOTOX®safe?

Yes. BOTOX® has been used for nearly 18 years to treat many medical conditions, and it is one of the most widely researched medicines in the world. BOTOX® has been FDA-approved since 2004 for the treatment of excessive sweating.

Hyperhidrosis treatments are covered by some medical insurances. Check with your insurance provider to find out if your treatment is covered.
