BOTOX® for Excessive Sweating

Excessive sweating can cause embarrassment and discomfort, especially for those who may have careers that involve a lot of time in front of other people. Indigo MedSpa offers treatment for this condition which is known as hyperhidrosis. The most common type is axillary hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating under the armpits.

Sweating is the body's way of staying at the correct temperature. When a person suffers from hyperhidrosis, their body's sweat glands are overactive, causing them to produce much more sweat than is needed for cooling. BOTOX® has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of this condition.

How do I know if I have hyperhidrosis?

  • Is excessive sweating interfering with your ability to perform daily tasks?
  • Do you carry extra changes of clothes or supplies (such as antiperspirants, powders, sprays, towels) to manage your excessive sweating?
  • Have you tried prescription products such as powders, antiperspirants or deodorants to manage the problem?
  • Do you spend time large amounts of time thinking about and worrying about excessive sweating?

If you answered yes to several of these questions, and excessive sweating is interfering with your ability to function normally in your daily life, you may have hyperhidrosis. To find out more about treatment for excessive sweating, call Indigo MedSpa at 616.336.7662 or book a consultation.

Treatment Process - BOTOX® For Excessive Sweating

Before Treatment

Before beginning treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic you must schedule a consultation with Dr. PreFontaine. At this time you will be asked some questions regarding your medical history including any allergies or medical conditions you may have. Dr PreFontaine will explain the treatment process and give you instructions about what to expect during and after the procedure.

During Treatment

The procedure is simple and quick. A small amount of BOTOX® solution is injected through a very fine needle into the affected underarm area. You may experience some slight discomfort as a result of the injection. Multiple injections will be given to fully treat the area. The number of injections depends on the assessment of your needs which will be made by Dr. Stephen PreFontaine.

After Treatment

There is a possibility that some clients may experience side effects including but not limited to injection site pain, itching, headache, non-underarm sweating and pain in the neck or back. These symptoms should cease shortly following treatment.

You will be able to return to your daily activities almost immediately after treatment. As with all injections there is a chance that you may experience some side effects from these treatments.

Common Questions About BOTOX® for Excessive Sweating

How does BOTOX® work?

Targeted, superficial BOTOX® injections temporarily interrupt nerve transmission to the sweat glands that cause excessive sweating. Clients will experience significantly reduced sweat production following treatment. When topical measures are not enough, BOTOX® could be the solution.

Is treatment with BOTOX® painful?

BOTOX® is injected into the underarm area using a very fine needle which is placed just under the skin. As with all injection procedures, some discomfort may occur. You'll receive multiple injections during treatment, and the number of these injections is based on Dr. PreFontaine's assessment of the treatment area.

BOTOX® treatments are not right for everyone, to learn if they are right for you, call 616.336.7662 to schedule a consultation.

How soon will I notice results?

You should notice a significant reduction in underarm sweating within four weeks of your first treatment.

Are the results permanent?

No, over time you will need to undergo further BOTOX® injections to sustain your results. In a study performed by BOTOX®, over half of those surveyed reported that their results lasted 200 days or more.

Is BOTOX® safe?

Yes. BOTOX® has been used for nearly 18 years to treat many medical conditions, and it is one of the most widely researched medicines in the world. BOTOX® has been FDA-approved since 2004 for the treatment of excessive sweating.
