Lipo-therapy is a treatment which the French have used for years as a less invasive procedure than liposuction for spot fat reduction. The procedure works by using conventional medicines, which are also naturally found in the body, which cause fat to breakdown and be reabsorbed into the body naturally. The solution is made up of Phosphatidylcholine (PC) and sodium deoxycholate (DC). PC is a surfactant that is natural to the body and is found in the membranes of all cells. DC is a bile salt that allows the PC to take on an injectable form..

This solution is injected into the subcutaneous fat layer. This emulsifies and breaks down the fat cells. Areas such as the abdomen, "love handles" and flanks can be treated with Lipo-therapy, as fatty deposits in these areas can be dissolved. Who is a good candidate for Lipo-therapy?

Lipo-therapy is meant to be combined with diet and exercise, and is not meant as a weight loss regimen by itself. Lipo-therapy is for those who are at or near their ideal weight but are still not pleased with their shape. Clients must have a BMI of 30 or below to be considered for treatment. Is there a long recovery time for Lipo-therapy, like Liposuction?

No, Liposuction is an invasive, painful surgery that requires weeks of recovery time. Lipo-therapy requires little recovery time and is minimally painful. Like most injection treatments there will be tenderness, swelling, and bruising after treatment. However, these side effects are temporary, and will resolve within a week or two. History and use of Lipo-therapy.

The solutions used during Lipo-therapy treatments have been used in various medical applications since the 1950's, and in cosmetic treatments since the 1990's. Indigo MedSpa's Lipo-therapy treatments are performed by Dr. Stephen PreFontaine, an experienced licensed physician. Lipodissolve Lipo-therapy has not been cleared for use in fat reduction by the FDA, however compounding pharmacies in the U.S. are legally able to compound formulations combining phosphatidylcholine (PC) with sodium deoxycholate (DC).

Will Lipo-therapy permanently remove fat cells?

Yes, Lipo-therapy does not shrink existing fat cells, like diet and exercise, it actually removes fat cells from the body by destruction of these cells and elimination of their contents through natural body processes.

The First Step is Consultation

In order to begin body shaping treatments, clients must schedule a consultation to see if they are a good candidate for these treatments, as they are not for everyone. What to Expect During Lipodissolve Lipo-therapy Treatment

Before Treatment

After your consultation you will be scheduled for your first appointment. To minimize side effects such as swelling or bruising, clients should avoid alcohol or anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen or aspirin prior to treatment. For the first appointment clients should bring a change of loose fitting clothes and a supportive garment (such as control top panty hose or a girdle) to be worn for additional support post treatment. The area being treated should be free of all fragrances and lotions. Clients should also be sure to eat a light meal or snack approximately 90 minutes prior to treatment.

During Treatment

During your first treatment you will be walked through the procedure and explained how to care for yourself following treatment. Then the physician will begin microinjections on the area being treated. These are tiny injections, so some may feel like a pin prick, and others may not be felt at all. Immediately after completion of injections, Arnica gel will be applied and massaged in with a hand held massager to minimize swelling and bruising at the injection site. Ice is applied for about 20 minutes before the garment is applied and the client is discharged to home.

After Treatment

Following treatment, clients should increase fluid intake and can expect to have swelling and discomfort for the first 24 hours which will then possibly bruise, and subside and dissipate over the next week or two.Clients will be provided with a tube of Arnica, a topical ointment, and it is recommended that clients purchase their own massager to use for the first few days after treatment. Specific treatment instructions will be given to help clients experience the best results and avoid side affects.

Following treatment you will continue to see improvements in your shape, as the process continues to eliminate fat cells. A treatment schedule should be adhered to for maximum results.
