Now that the days are warming up, you're probably excited to start spending more time outside. Few things beat a sunny day outdoors. But as good as sunshine feels on your skin, it can also do major damage to your skin. If your planning on spending time outdoors this spring and summer, be sure your taking steps to protect your skin from the sun. It's all too easy to forget sunscreen when your rushing out the door for a walk, a car ride, a swim or running errands... but it's essential to your health that your remember to wear sunscreen.
Here are a few facts you should know about the sun and your skin:
1.) Stay out of the sun between 10am and 2pm when rays from the sun are the strongest.
2.) The best defense against the sun is the shade. The second best is clothing.
3.) The third best defense is sunscreen. You should be wearing an SPF of 30 or higher.
4.) Protect yourself from the sun even if the sky looks overcast. You've probably heard this before, but it's worth repeating. UV rays can cut through haze-you
just dont notice it as much, which can be even more dangerous.
5.) Keep an eye on any suspicious looking freckles or moles. if you notice a skin spot that you have never seen before, changed in shape or size, becomes
noticeably darker, has asymmetrical borders or is larger that the size of a pencil eraser have them checked by your dermatologist.
